Bio

INLAY are an engaging, collaborative four-piece group formed in 2010 whilst studying music in Norwich. These four musicians make use of traditional melodies from the British Isles, rooting them firmly within the folk-genre. In other respects, Inlay question categorisation; drawing upon elements of each individual’s diverse musical background, and incorporating original material into many of their intricate compositions. With the aid of: violin, accordion, guitar, 5-string banjo, slide guitar, bodhrán, percussion, mandolin and captivating vocal harmonies, they produce rich and full-bodied compositions. This distinct blend of contemporary-folk mixed with bags of energy provides audiences with one of the best live performances on the circuit.

The Cardinal’s Hat has the distinction of being Worcester’s oldest inn, so I’m thrilled to become custodian of another distinguished hostelry that has played a significant part in our local heritage.

The Cardinal’s Hat will re-open as a female-friendly ale house with a broad range of bottled beers, lagers and wines to compliment a fresh, local and artisan-led menu. It will open from breakfast till late and serve a variety of food, from morning pastries and coffee to the perfect afternoon cream tea.

It was over ten years ago that I was fortunate enough to become proprietor of the National Trust's first public house, The Fleece Inn. The Fleece is an immensely important local landmark and has been not only my livelihood, but also my home. Over the years, I have enjoyed many successes here and made numerous lifelong friendships. The Fleece Inn continues to be my first love and will very much remain my home.

The Cardinal’s Hat, on the other hand, will benefit from the well-established 'Fleece Family' treatment and will be managed under the watchful eye of Sadie Hughes my long suffering events coordinator. After a sympathetic refurbishment it will open its doors to the public in late April, when we both hope to welcome you over the threshold. For the time being you’ll find further announcements on its progress on our website www.thefleeceinn.co.uk.

I look forward to welcoming you to The Cardinal’s Hat in due course and in the meantime, value your continued return visits to The Fleece Inn. If you’ve got any questions please don’t hesitate to ask!

With warm regards

Nigel Smith
