We’re very excited to welcome Los Vega all the way from Mexico to the Fleece Barn!
For almost 25 years, Los Vega have been dedicated to performing and promoting son jarocho, the vibrant traditional music of Veracruz. Their performances bring together deep cultural roots, family heritage, and decades of stage experience, creating a powerful and joyful sound that has captivated audiences around the world.
The group has appeared at numerous cultural and artistic festivals across Mexico and internationally, with performances in China, the United States, and Canada. Their music also reached a global audience when their recording of La Bruja was included on the official soundtrack of the film Frida, which was nominated for the Academy Awards.
Los Vega continue to play an important role in keeping son jarocho alive and evolving. They have collaborated across a wide range of cultural projects, including appearing as special guests in the acclaimed show De sirenas y peteneras e infortunados marinos, nominated for Mexico’s prestigious Lunas del Auditorio live performance awards.
They celebrated their 20th anniversary with a landmark concert at Teatro de la Ciudad in Mexico City, bringing together more than twenty renowned son jarocho artists. The event was also nominated for the Lunas del Auditorio awards. The following year they performed at a benefit concert produced by Tibet House US and directed by renowned composer Philip Glass, becoming the first son jarocho group to perform at the historic Carnegie Hall in New York.
The music of Los Vega comes from a living tradition. For more than six generations, the Vega family has nurtured son jarocho in the fandangos of Veracruz, carrying forward the legacy of the legendary Don Andrés Vega Delfín of Tlacotalpan. From these community roots has grown Los Vega, a new generation sharing the energy, stories and rhythms of this rich musical heritage with audiences across the world.
