Sustainability

Our response to the climate emergency

At The Fleece Inn, sustainability is not just a value, it’s a way of life. Nestled in the heart of Bretforton village and steeped in centuries of heritage, we believe that tourism should enrich the places and people it touches.

That’s why we proudly embrace the principles of Regenerative Tourism: ensuring every visitor leaves this place not just delighted but having contributed - directly or indirectly - to its care and future.

Working in partnership with our owners, the National Trust, we are actively pursuing improvements to reduce our environmental impact and champion positive local actions.

Electric Car Charger - we have recently installed a charging point. Please contact us to book a slot.

Evesham Cycle Vale - we support Evesham Cycle Vale events with discount codes for participants. Cyclists are welcome at the Fleece. Bike parking is available behind the barn. We're just off National Cycle Route 442

Climate: Decarbonising for a Greener Future

We are committed to lowering our carbon footprint and are taking tangible steps toward Net Zero:

Upcoming solar panel installation on our orchard outbuildings will soon power parts of the business with renewable energy.

We promote low-carbon travel by hosting events and performances that encourage guests to stay locally, reducing travel and enriching the evening experience.

Our planned glamping expansion will allow guests to stay on site in low-impact accommodations, supporting wedding guests, artists, and visitors alike.

Circular Economy: Reducing Waste, Supporting Local

We are proud to champion a circular economy by rethinking how we source, serve, and sustain:

Over 30% of our produce is grown or made within 30 miles, as part of the Transition Towns 30/30 campaign.

We craft our own Ark Cider from apples grown in our orchard, and use local plums and apples in seasonal crumbles and sauces.

We stock Spot Loggins ice cream, made right here in the village, and soft drinks from Pershore and Nurses Cottage on Bredon Hill.

Over 90% of our real ales are from within a 1-hour drive, as proud supporters of CAMRA’s LocAle campaign.

We continually seek to minimise waste and increase recycling, both front and back of house, through efficient supplier partnerships and internal training.

Biodiversity: Protecting and Enhancing Nature

Surrounded by countryside and orchard, we understand the value of nurturing the natural world:

Our orchard is not just a place to relax—it’s a haven for pollinators, birds, and local flora, managed with wildlife in mind.

Our sustainable landscaping avoids chemical use and prioritises native planting and traditional orchard care.

Place-Based: Supporting Community & Culture

The Fleece is more than a pub—it’s a community cornerstone. We believe tourism must honour and enhance the local area:

We employ over 80% of our staff locally, supporting Bretforton and nearby villages with meaningful jobs and training.

We sponsor and host community events including the Bretforton Show, Open Gardens, and the Proms.

Our Community Notice Board and online platforms actively promote local happenings, ensuring visitors feel part of village life.

Our supply chain supports small-scale, independent producers, helping preserve the character and economy of the region.

Join Us in Making a Difference

Whether you're sipping local cider under the blossom, enjoying live music, or discovering village life, your time here supports something meaningful.

We invite our guests, suppliers, and partners to walk with us on this journey, and to be inspired to take their own steps toward a more sustainable, regenerative future.
